restaurants and sylvan picnic spots. Indeed, if it's variety you are after, Oubaai is your perfect base with the distant Outeniqua Mountain range and indigenous flora and

look that does not sacrifice individuality. From the design and the building to
the finishing touches, only the best will be used. Your personal preferences will be accommodated by
a range of choices of finishes, from floors to windows, doors and sanitary ware to ceilings.
Oubaai 18-hole Golf Course. In the design of the 18-hole Championship Golf
Course and Driving Range, Ernie Els and his team have taken full advantage of
the spectacular site and surroundings. Furthermore, they have the full
support of Nicklaus Design as Technical Advisors. Nicklaus Design is the
privately held company of golf legend Jack Nicklaus and the Nicklaus family. The
dramatic Golf Clubhouse location overlooks the 16th, 17th and 18th greens. Open air
terraces offer panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and the Gwaing River Valley.
As you walk the course your views and outlooks take in forest, sea, river and
mountains. Ernie Els approach to golf course design is centred around
flexibility. Concepts are moulded according to the landscape and not vice versa.
Ernie and his team have produced a course that is fun to play and that enhances the
surrounding environment. Furthermore the course fairly display challenges and
hazards whilst affording players the opportunity to use a full range of shots
and plan strategically for individual holes. Every homeowner will automatically
become a Social Member of the Estate.
I am very proud of this course at Oubaai and it will always have a special place in my heart as my first in South Africa.
The course is coming together nicely and the first few holes have certainly reached my expectations.
The course will have the characteristics of a links in the sense that the greens
will be forgiving and open to a variety of shots but will also be demanding yet
rewarding. The weather, as with any course by the sea, will play a significant
role in how the course plays especially on the 'point' (holes 16, 17 and 18) the
scenery around these holes is beautiful and at times a real test of golf. But
all of you high handicappers need not be frightened I have not designed a course purely
for professionals. I have designed a course that will be a great golfing
experience for everybody, it will reward the good shots but not unfairly punish
the not so good.
