The coastal city of Benalmádena is in one of the most magnetic areas in Spain, right at the heart of the Costa del Sol. The Mediterranean sea and the surrounding mountains are the main features, two elements that have influenced the history and landscape of this precious area of Málaga. Benalmádena has an especially mild climate. The average temperature is 17.8 degrees, mainly thanks to the 2800 hours of sun per annum that bathe the city and the coast.

Benalmádena, one of the most visited areas in Spain, is distributed in two main areas, Benalmádena Pueblo and Benalmádena Costa.

Benalmádena Pueblo is the original old town settled in the foothills of the Sierra de Mijas at about 5 kilometers inland. The town is a typical Andalucian style white-washed village with narrow streets and superb views of the coastline. There are a wide range of attractions in this area, which includes a museum, a picturesque church, gardens and an interesting castle.
One of the main attractions in Benalmádena Pueblo is the gorgeous "Plaza de España" (Spains Square) with the statue of "La Nina", a small girl holding out a seashell. This beautiful statue has become the symbol of Benalmadena. The square is surrounded by some restaurants and bars, and is a fine place to unwind and watch the world go by. Close to this square is the church of "Santo Domingo" which dates from the 16th century. Just below the church are the peaceful "Jardines del Muro" gardens with their excellent views. From these gardens you can see "Castillo de Colomares" castle further down the hillside. Built recently as a monument to Christopher Columbus, this castle features architectural styles from all over the world.
More over, Benalmádena Costa is the area bordering the coastline, right in front of the tranquil Mediterranean sea. The area has about 9 kilometres of beaches, including a large seaside promenade running west from the marina. Many of these beaches are equipped with lifeguards and showers, and most of the resorts activity is concentrated around the promenade, which includes a wide variety of bars, restaurants and hotels. The award-winning and well-known marina ("Puerto Marina") is one of the finest in Spain. There are about 1,100 moorings along with shops, restaurants, boutiques and the Sea-Life aquarium. Furthermore, boat and fishing trips can be taken from the marina. Close to the marina, visitors will find a 24-hour square with a numerous nightclubs, discos and a cinema, what makes it a popular area for the young. On the other hand, for a bit of peace and quiet, head to the Paloma Park situated close to the beach where there is a large lake with landscaped gardens, wildlife and a mini zoo. Opposite the park is the Selwo marine park with its Dolphin and Sea-lion displays. As you head further west along the coast beyond the Torrequebrada Casino, the resort area becomes quieter and you will find smaller, less crowded beaches.
